SOHP Education and Training Committee and Goals 2006-2007

Committee Purpose : Members of the Education & Training Committee monitor the state of graduate education in occupational health psychology (OHP), encourage and promote the development of scientific and practitioner skills of the Society’s prospective members, and identify/develop resources for OHP educators (e.g., sample syllabi, sample curricula, etc.).

Committee Goals :

1. Monitor and make available information about OHP graduate education

a. Contact all OHP programs for information about their programs, to be updated regularly

b. Develop a web-site or section of the existing web-site that focuses on E&T. Here we could focus on offering advice to undergraduates for choosing a graduate program. Should link to a standardized listing of features of all graduate programs, similar to SIOP. (Note: this action also links with a sub-goal to reach out to undergraduates)

2. Foster collaboration and discussion among teachers of OHP

a. Update the collection of syllabi for OHP and related courses to be posted on the aforementioned website

b. Gather and disseminate teaching tools and tips for and from OHP educators

3. Learn about training needs of OHP practitioners and graduate students

a. Identify job titles, duties and/or competencies of professionals who work in OHP

b. Determine the useful experiences professionals had during graduate education along with the missing experiences

c. Establish a "how-to" for graduate students for setting up collaborations and partnerships with OHP professionals
